20 years before ChatGPT became the talk of the town this net art project negotiates the relationship between AI, ChatBots and autonomous machines in the context of social networks.

The chatbot A.L.I.C.E (Artificial Linguistic Internet Computer Entity) is presented in several social networks as a real person. Since A.L.I.C.E is always answering truthfully the participants are able to discover the true nature of their chat partner more or less rapidly. But interestingly they often don't believe talking to a machine. The paranoia to come across a fake person on the net is confronted with a machine that is absolutely honest.
